Difference pt. III – Misfits

Being in the shadows for too long,
strangers, longing to belong,
all different but deeply all the same,
misfits, lonely, out of the frame.

She wasn’t the best student back in school,
judged by the teachers, treated like a fool.
He was very quiet, didn’t want to break any rule,
he was mocked by the bullies as he wasn’t so cool

His skin was too dark for this part of the world,
charged and prejudged before he can claim a word,
he was told, here people are all equal before the law,
but on his birth ceritficate it was imprinted: outlaw

Expelled from the country in which she was given birth,
unwelcomed, on every corner of the earth,
the planet looks like such a huge place,
but for her there wasn’t enough space,
to call home

He was an introvert, he didn’t talk much,
he wasn’t into partying and such
he didn’t want to be in the center of attention,
he chose not to follow the social convention.

Fragile when the competition expected him to be strong,
doing mistakes, where he wasn’t allowed to be wrong,
emotional when everyone else was cruel,
depressed, fighting his inner duel

Considered a trouble most of her childhood,
a riot, she has never felt understood,
wild and crazy, she couldn’t be controlled,
she would defy whatever she was being told.

She never wanted to be a princess like the other girls,
dressed in black, she was wearing nails instead of pearls,
listening to metal, closed too much to herself,
didn’t feel really like a human, more like an elf.

He was not feminine enough to be a woman
not manly enough to be a “real” man
too strong for the one, too sensitive for the other,
trapped in between, never accepted from his father.

She was so happy, she fell in love with her at first sight,
but every close-minded prick yelled: no, this isn’t right,
Fuck them, what was their problem? why do they bother?
they were just two girls who loved each other.

Being in the shadows for too long,
strangers, longing to belong,
all different but deeply all the same,
misfits, together, we can break the frame.

Difference pt. II – Blinds

Closed borders, closed windows, closed minds,
how can people live behind the blinds,
they choose their eyes and ears to cover,
even though there is so much more to discover.

They block the roads, they build a wall,
instead of flying, they choose to crawl,
instead of seeing the world from above,
into the ground their heads they shove.

Instead of trying to help they sink the boats,
they pretend they didn’t see the infant that floats,
they lie, they try to find excuses,
they cover up, they hide the bruises

They hear populists calling them “strange”,
filling the people with fear, hatred and rage,
they say they are different, they don’t belong here,
that they can make them tomorrow magically dissappear.

They call them “terrorists on disguise”,
but they don’t dare to look them in the eyes,
for what they’ll see if they come close enough,
is the pain and a life that has been already rough.

Closed borders, closed windows, closed minds,
how can people live behind the blinds,
they don’t care, they don’t try to understand,
it’s enough for them to turn around and pretend.

Pretend that everything is alright,
pretend that they didn’t have to fight,
pretend that they can continue with their lives,
pretend that their words are not sharper than their knives.

They close their minds into a box,
everything different, is crashed on the rocks,
they can’t even politely talk, they growl they roar,
attacking refugees, misfits, the gay couple next door.

The air in the box is getting toxic and dense,
every new interaction is getting intense,
they don’t see the trap, they run for the bait,
locked in their mindset, they rot, they stagnate.

They will look at themselves into the mirror one day,
trying to be redeemed, they’ll cry and pray,
they’ll be angry but there’s no one to blame,
frightened by the look of the monsters that they became.

Difference pt. I – Bones

Bones,
same broken and some strong,
bones,
to whom do they belong?

Their present is clear for all to see,
their future is not hard to foresee,
lying on the ground, covered in dust,
but what can you tell about their past?

Now they are bones but they were alive once,
they used to fight, they used to dance,
covered outside by hair and skin,
love and hatred burning within.

Look how they all look alike,
can you tell who was the first to strike?
what differences did they have?
why did they split the world in half?

Why did they start killing each other,
taking away the kids from the mother?
Can you tell who held the gun?
Can you tell who shot, who tried to run?

On which language did they talk?
which barriers they had to knock,
what heavy burdens they had to carry,
some of them real, others imaginary.

Enslaved by masters, daemons and gods,
sometimes forced by pistols and rods,
sometimes willingly, tricked like fools,
by ignorance, money and jewls.

Attacking the different, choosing not to see,
following the norm, too scared to be free,
becoming the bullet instead of the feather,
dividing, instead of bringing together.

They rest quietly now together in peace,
every single bone, they mold into one piece,
bound on one earth spinning around,
there are no borders under the ground.

There is no boundary, no high wall,
there are no war flags standing tall,
you can hear the souls together to mourn,
wishing for a chance wiser to be reborn.

Bones,
some broken and some strong,
Bones,
to whom do they belong?

Faith Part III – Do you believe in god?

Grandpa, do you believe in god? asked the child.
Of course I believe in god, he replied,
how could I not believe? just look around,
how could the humble man create something so profound?

How does he look like? Have you seen him close?
I have seen him many times, he smells like rose,
he has the head of a dog, no race and no gender,
his skin has all shades, he is wise and tender.

He sounds like a monster, weren’t you scared?
Nobody scares me when I look at his face,
monsters can hide behind beauty, silk and lace,
but when you look deep into their souls,
is when you really see the ugly holes.

Where is his home? Does he live in the church?
He has no home, he wants to be free,
church is one of the places he’d rather not be,
he lives with the refugees and the suppressed,
whoever is lost, can rest on his chest.

In all the adventures that you have been,
tell me some miracles, that you have seen,
did he walk on water or cured the sick,
is he strong and tall with a golden stick?

One time he appeared to me as a cripple on the street,
he was hungry but he couldn’t talk, stand, or move his feet,
after days that he was crawling around,
a piece of bread next to a can he found.

When he was about his hunger to end,
he saw a dog on his feet to ascend,
he was much thinner than him, more hungry, more scared,
he fed the dog with the bread, for himself few bites he spared.

Another time he was a young child at school,
few bullies were mocking another kid that was not “cool”,
teachers and students would look the other way,
careless or scared they had nothing to say.

He was thin and weak, but he did stand up,
with a brave young voice, he told them to stop,
needless to say, he was also mocked and attacked,
but after him more children found the strength to react.

But grandpa, I can’t see god in the stories you shared,
it was just a simple man and a kid that was scared,
in all your miracles I see humans who helped,
what makes you believe that it was god instead?

I’ve seen so many people, and they are all weak and scared,
but there is a god inside each one of them ready to be heard,
he has the head of a dog, no race and no gender,
his skin has all shades, he is wise and tender.

Faith Part II – Take a stand

We all need faith as a compass, as a spotless guide,
when we lose our path, into the dark we slide,
as a beam of light when all seem dim,
as hope, for dreams that we cannot redeem.

Have faith to gods, to lift your soul
have faith to people, to raise us all,
but it’s not enough to only pray or demand,
sometimes you have to take a stand.

Faith alone won’t take you that far by any means,
society doesn’t move forward by itself as it seems,
we’re not climbing some magical stepping stones,
they’re built by people with dreams, flesh and bones.

Supporting them is the first step but can’t be the only,
their fight for change doesn’t have to be so lonely,
they’ve achieved so much but they’re such a small fraction,
as new challenges arise, more and more need to take action.

We witness every day all sorts of hideous crimes,
people judged by their beliefs a million times,
people criminalized by the colour of their skin,
women mocked for the wrinkles on their chin.

The cyber bullies spreading hate, amplifying this decay,
saying things that at the past they woudln’t dare to say,
holy judges of all, mean and vicious, like never before,
with no consequences, nothing to lose or pay for.

People are too few and the world too big to cover,
make it your duty the injustice to uncover,
we need more people to reverse this grudge,
don’t tolerate every digital blood-sucking judge.

There will be times, that you are the only one around,
you will see people being beaten to the ground,
at any place, in any group, big or small,
you need to act, don’t drop the ball.

Don’t tell me that you don’t have a choice,
just step up and raise your voice,
don’t just stare or turn around,
bring these awful people down.

‘cause your voice has the power
It can beat the toughest coward,
and your pen is a gun,
if you fire it, they will run.

In your keyboard lies the force,
to redirect this evil’s course
you don’t need to fight or be violent,
just speak up, don’t stay silent.

You might wish, hope and pray,
but this won’t make it go away,
I hope you can understand,
now is the time to take a stand.

I really hope you understand,
have faith, but take a stand.

Faith Part I – Who needs your faith?

Have faith they said,
and everything will be alright,
but they chose your faith ahead,
before you even see the sunlight.

Most people are born with some faith,
and they let it dictate their fate,
they live for one and they die for one,
they put belief over the fellow man.

You should have faith, I agree,
it’s fine, as long as you are free,
sometimes people need hope,
but don’t turn that cross into a rope,
when hope is hard to find,
don’t let a book enslave your mind.

Life is not just win or lose,
you can almost always choose,
what to believe, where to place your faith on,
on every challenge that you stumble upon.

I’m not against gods, gods that fall or gods that rise,
they are the same to me, almighty and wise,
gods of darkness or the goddess of light,
even without your faith, they will be alright.

They have survived one million years,
through hope and fears, silence and tears.
Through love and hate, flowers and gore,
they will survive ten million years more.

But people, people need your faith to survive,
It’s not easy for an idea to be born, and stay alive,
people who dream and act, people who laugh and fight,
‘cause changing the world can be a long and lonely flight.

It takes a high toll, the others to serve,
when you could just relax, consume and observe,
most people are scared to stand up, they just stay short,
few people that do, they need your support.

The judge that fights
corruption,
and dies in a scene of mass destruction,
the journalist that unveils the truth,
and takes three bullets through a shattered booth.

The women that stand up in a man’s world,
the kids that question what they’ve been told,
the priests that preach love instead of hate,
the artitsts that inspire and motivate.

The young politician that tries to bring change,
and he is neglected with laughter and rage,
he is just being thrown out of the frame,
while people yell “they are all the same”.

The doctor that saves lives,
the rescuer that sacrifices,
the activists that go to prison,
or get shot, for no reason.

People, put your faith to them, put your faith to you,
believe, and people will come through,
they will succeed against the odds,
’cause people are the living gods.
