Gift from the gods

Gift from the gods

It has been truly a while,
since I’m lost in the sea,
going deeper, mile after mile,
there’s no return I can foresee.

The last port is left so far behind,
warmth and calm are so long forgotten,
memories struggling to survive in my mind,
hanging from an anchor that’s far too rotten.

Storm after storm, wave after wave,
from one disaster sailing to the next,
I’ve lost too much, what’s left to save?
wandering between the pain and the wrecks.

I’m so tired, I close my eyes and fall asleep,
I wake up from the sun and a seagull’s scream,
is this the land, is it the end of my trip?
just let me sleep if it’s another dream.

The sand lies golden under my feet,
I leave the boat and I break free,
I start running, longing to meet,
the hugging shadows of a palm tree.

Is this the heaven, that I’ve been told?
Will I stay here against the odds?
And how is this place really called?
Maybe I’ll name it “gift from the gods”
